Membrane Separation & Water Reclamation
In wastewater treatment, ultra-filtration (UF) devices are used to recycle and reuse water that contains virtually no physical solids. Ultra-filtration is a membrane separation process in which hydrostatic pressure forces a liquid against a semi-permeable membrane. Suspended solids and solutes of high molecular weight are retained, while water and low molecular weight solutes pass through the membrane.
Ultrafiltration is widely applied downstream of secondary biological treatment systems as an advanced polishing stage, or as effective pre-treatment to Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems, protecting expensive RO membranes from fouling.
